JOB TITLE: Governance Partner/ Company Secretary
REF: ATR 5277336
Pay rate: £46,330.00 per annum PAYE
Contract Type: This is a permanent role
Working Arrangement: Mostly remote working with working from home in the majority. If the team come together it will either be in the South West (Wiltshire) or London.

In order to apply for this permanent role you should have previous experience and understanding of governance work in a regulated industry, with great attention to detail and be very organised in your approach. You will also have strong stakeholder management experience.

Role

On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Governance Partner to support the Governance Lead to implement the Group’s Governance arrangements that support NEDs, Executive Board and other governing body members to fulfil their duties. You will also support a control framework that gives assurance to the Boards on the robustness of the group\'s services and ultimately support the delivery of its strategy to ensure that the team are compliant with all regulatory and legal requirements and entity constitutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion compliance with governance frameworks, constitutions, terms of reference, and forward plans, recommending changes where needed.
  • Advise senior executives on the interpretation of standing orders and delegation matrices.
  • Provide governance advice and maintain resources such as the NED manual and intranet guidance.
  • Support NEDs and Independent Members with recruitment, induction, training, succession planning, and administrative needs.
  • Deliver digital governance solutions and efficient administration for boards, committees, and panels, including governance calendars and urgent decisions.
  • Lead/support AGMs and special meetings while promoting high standards of conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and policy obligations; maintain statutory registers/returns; and support performance and resource management with a customer focus.
What the client is looking for
  • Previous experience and understanding of governance work in a regulated industry
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., ICSA/CGI Chartered Governance qualification, legal or compliance certification) or equivalent experience
  • Good level of IT literacy (specifically Excel and Word).
  • Previous experience of supporting boards or committees is essential
  • Experience of the housing sector and commercial environments
  • Strong stakeholder management experience.
