Family Safeguarding Mental Health Recovery and Wellbeing Specialist

Family Safeguarding is part of Open Mental Health, which is a ground-breaking model bringing together NHS, Statutory and Voluntary agencies to deliver targeted and holistic mental health support. Open Mental Health connects people to community resources, builds resilience and improves wellbeing through targeted interventions and a coordinated approach around the individual with an ethos of no wrong door. The Family Safeguarding service is supported by a Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Family Therapist to offer support to both clients and colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The Family Safeguarding Team is an innovative partnership model between Somerset County Council and a network of voluntary sector organisations. The wider Family Safeguarding Team is comprised of substance misuse, domestic abuse, adult mental health workers and childrens social workers. Workers from specialist organisations join together to form one team working with families. The Family Safeguarding Team focuses on working to develop parents strengths to positively change their behaviour and relationships in order to improve their childrens lives. By assisting parents to make positive changes more children can stay at home with their birth family and thrive, not just survive.

Job responsibilities

Take on a caseload as guided by the Somerset Council Family Safeguarding Team Manager and develop and run personalised programmes of support for parents coming in to contact with the Family Safeguarding project, safely and effectively.Assess individuals against needs, strengths and risks as they come on to caseload and provide outreach services including home visits, deliver 1-1 key working sessions as well as semi and structured groups to support as a part of their personalised programme of support and activity.Provide psycho-social interventions to parents involved in the service drawing on CBT techniques, Motivational Interviewing, solution focused working, skills and behaviours coaching, parenting skills and boundary setting.Actively engage those people introduced, in recognised social, therapeutic, creative, practical and community activities.Share information within the Open Mental Health Network and develop and implement personal action plans as appropriate, always working within the boundaries of confidentiality and data protection.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Substantial mental health and therapeutic experience and associated qualifications.
  • A proven, successful track record and substantial experience of multi-disciplinary team working in a mental health or wellbeing environment
  • Experience of working with complexity and using a trauma informed approach
  • Proven experience of working with people with multiple needs (e.g. mental health, domestic abuse, alcohol/drug dependency, long term conditions)
  • Experience of using psycho-social interventions such as Motivational Interviewing or Brief Solution Focused Therapy (not essential as training will be provided)
