Job description

Family Law Solicitor / Legal Executive (2-5 PQE)

Very Competitive Salary (DOE), Reading, Flexible Hybrid Working, Permanent

An established regional law firm is looking to add an experienced Family Law Solicitor or Legal Executive to its private family team. This role has arisen due to continued growth and offers the chance to work in a modern practice that prioritises constructive outcomes, client relationships, and long-term career development.

This opportunity is well suited to a lawyer who is comfortable running their own matters, enjoys client-facing work, and wants to be part of a team that takes a progressive and thoughtful approach to family law.

What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like

You will take ownership of a varied private family law caseload, with responsibility from initial instruction through to resolution. Matters will span the full breadth of private family work, including relationship breakdown, finances, children issues, and proactive family planning agreements.

Alongside your own files, you'll collaborate with colleagues on more complex cases and support the development of junior team members where appropriate. There is also an expectation that you'll contribute to the wider profile of the practice through networking, referrals, and relationship-building.

What the Firm Is Looking For

The firm is keen to speak with lawyers who have already built a solid foundation in private family law and are now ready to take the next step.

You are likely to:

  • Have 2-5 years' PQE (or equivalent) in family law
  • Be confident managing your own caseload with minimal supervision
  • Have experience handling complex or high-value matters
  • Take a solution-focused, non-confrontational approach
  • Be aligned with non-court dispute resolution methods
  • Deliver an excellent standard of client care
  • Be organised, commercially aware, and confident prioritising work

Experience of mediation or collaborative practice is welcomed but not essential. Membership of Resolution (or willingness to join) is expected.

The Team and Culture

You’ll join a supportive family law team within a broader full-service firm. The environment is collaborative rather than hierarchical, with an emphasis on quality, wellbeing, and flexibility. Lawyers are encouraged to develop their own style, supported by experienced colleagues and practical supervision.

Hybrid working is firmly embedded, and the firm promotes a healthy balance between autonomy and teamwork.

What’s On Offer

In addition to a competitive salary, the firm offers a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Generous annual leave allowance
  • Pension and life assurance
  • Private medical cover and health cash plan
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Birthday leave and wellbeing initiatives
  • Paid charity day(s)
  • Travel season ticket support
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Option to buy additional holiday
  • Regular social and team events
  • Dog-friendly office policy
Why This Role Stands Out

This is a chance to:

  • Work on high-quality private family matters
  • Develop your practice in a modern, forward-thinking environment
  • Be trusted with autonomy while still supported
  • Play a role in the growth and direction of a family law team
