Overview

thefutureworks, Coventry University's dedicated recruitment agency, is recruiting for a Campus Services Technician (Electrical) to join the Estates team supporting its London campuses in Dagenham, Whitechapel, Vauxhall, and Greenwich. This is a proactive, hands-on role for an NVQ Level 3 Electrical Qualification (or equivalent) holder to help maintain a safe, efficient, and high-quality learning environment for staff and students.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance tasks across university buildings, focusing on electrical systems.
  • Undertake lighting repairs, LED upgrades, and replace damaged sockets and fittings.
  • Support Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities including:
    • Fire alarm and emergency lighting tests
    • Legionella control (e.g. changing TMVs, flushing systems)
    • Fire door inspections
  • Conduct minor repairs such as decorating, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of work, inspections, and compliance checks.
  • Assist with room setups, office moves, and university events.
  • Oversee external contractors to ensure work is carried out safely and to required standards.
  • Proactively report and resolve hazards or non-compliance issues.
  • Collaborate closely with the Campus Services Officer and Estates team to deliver excellent service.
About You
  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Qualification (or equivalent) and relevant electrical maintenance experience.
  • Good knowledge of lighting systems, electrical fault finding, and general maintenance work.
  • Understanding of health & safety, statutory compliance, and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to work from schedules, keep accurate records, and communicate clearly.
  • A customer-focused attitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Additional qualifications in general maintenance or health & safety would be an advantage.
Additional Information
  • Primarily based at Dagenham with some travel to other London sites.
  • Occasional flexibility required for out-of-hours work or events.
  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (shift pattern: 07:00-15:30, 5 days over 7 including some weekend cover).
