Job description

Our client is a global leader in stainless steel, as a business they strive to employ people who are passionate about success and seek to inspire others in their working environment.
At their site in Sheffield, they are requiring a skilled Electrical Shift Engineer to join their dynamic and hardworking team on a permanent basis.

THE ROLE:

The main tasks and responsibilities include:

  1. Working on a shift basis covering the electrical operations requirements of a heavy engineering plant.
  2. Electrical maintenance of all motors and drives.
  3. Fault finding on electronic cards to component level.
  4. Maintenance of the mill thyristor drives.
  5. Electrical maintenance of overhead D.C. and A.C. cranes.
  6. Maintenance of PLC systems, specifically ABB and Allen Bradley.
  7. Use of programming tools to identify faults on PLC systems and change parameters as required.
  8. Monitoring and maintaining the furnace control systems, calibration of controllers and the air/gas transducers, changing of thermocouples and the lighting procedure of furnaces.
  9. Reacting to breakdown requirements and safely/quickly identifying faults to minimize the impact on production.

For this position of Electrical Shift Engineer:

Your working hours are on a rotating shift pattern: 1 week mornings (6am to 2pm), 1 week afternoons (2pm to 10pm), and 1 week nights (10pm to 6am) Monday to Friday with the am shift working a Saturday morning and a day off during the next week.


THE CANDIDATE:

Required:

  1. Education to H.N.C. Level in an Electrical Engineering discipline.
  2. A basic understanding of P.C. based software, Excel, etc.
  3. An understanding and ability to interpret electrical drawings.
  4. Experience in writing reports detailing the activities during shift.
  5. Experience in working to safety legislation relevant to operations and electrical maintenance.
  6. Experience in adhering to S.W.P.'s, risk assessments, I+I procedures and the permit systems, as well as I.E.E. Regulations.

THE BENEFITS:

£(phone number removed) salary plus 20.67% shift allowance.
For working extra hours, there is a 13-hour payment each month = £2475 a year (Not guaranteed).
Quarterly bonus with a max payout of 20%.
Overtime is paid at 1.5x with certain Bank Holidays paid at 2x (Overtime is on Saturdays).
28 days holiday (for 1st year including BH, increasing annually up to a max of 35 after 5 years' service).
Pension - Under 30 - 1% (Employee), matched, 10% (total potential); 30-49 - 1-3% (employee), matched, 10-14% (total potential); 50+ 1-5%, matched, 10-18% (total potential).
