Design & Technology Technician

Start Date: January 2026
Location: North Tyneside
Contract: Full-time (term time only)
Salary: Dependent on experience

We are seeking a proactive, organised, and highly skilled Design & Technology Technician to join Teaching Personnel and support a thriving DT department at a school in North Tyneside (NE29) starting in January 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in assisting teachers, maintaining well‑equipped workshop spaces, preparing materials, and helping to create a safe, dynamic, and engaging learning environment for students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain materials, tools, and equipment for a range of DT lessons (Product Design, Engineering, Resistant Materials, Graphics, Electronics, etc.)
  • Provide technical support to staff and students during practical sessions
  • Ensure all workshops meet health and safety standards, including regular equipment checks
  • Assist with the ordering, organisation, and storage of materials and resources
  • Contribute to the development of creative projects and displays within the department
  • Support whole-school initiatives and events where appropriate
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Practical experience in one or more DT disciplines (e.g., woodworking, metalwork, CAD/CAM, electronics)
  • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes
Desirable
  • Experience working in a school or educational environment
  • Familiarity with equipment such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC machines
  • Relevant technical or vocational qualifications
