Deputy Hygiene Manager

Location: Chessington

Shift pattern: Sunday - Wednesday / Monday - Thursday

Hours: 8:00pm - 7:00am with a 1hr unpaid break (40 hours per week)

We're proud to be partnering with a leading food manufacturing business to recruit a passionate and driven Deputy Hygiene Manager. This role is central to ensuring the highest hygiene, safety and compliance standards are delivered across site operations, supporting both customer expectations and audit requirements.

As Deputy Hygiene Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in leading a dedicated hygiene team, embedding a strong culture of accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement while working cross-functionally with production, technical and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and inspire the hygiene team, ensuring all operatives and team leaders are fully trained, compliant, and consistently meeting food safety, hygiene and chemical handling requirements.
  • Drive audit readiness every day, owning hygiene documentation, cleaning validation, internal audits, and ensuring compliance with customer, retailer, and industry standards (BRC, retailer codes, HACCP).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, engineering, technical, and planning teams to coordinate cleaning schedules, equipment strip downs, and effective downtime planning.
  • Deliver robust training and development programmes, maintaining accurate training matrices and coaching leaders to conduct performance reviews, probation assessments, and ongoing skills development.
  • Implement and monitor hygiene KPIs, focusing on improved efficiency, reduced cleaning times, and measurable quality improvements across the site.
  • Support continuous improvement projects, using CI tools and data analysis to identify and implement cost-saving, waste reduction, and process efficiency initiatives.
  • Oversee chemical, PPE and consumables management, ensuring safe storage, controlled usage, and availability of all hygiene materials and resources.
  • Liaise with external service providers and auditors, ensuring contractual KPIs are met while supporting successful announced and unannounced customer audits.
  • Maintain hygiene equipment to the highest standard, reporting faults and driving timely repairs to minimise downtime and risk.
  • Deputise for the Hygiene Manager, providing strong leadership presence and ownership of hygiene strategy when required.
