Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a critical care environment or theatre department.
  • Recovery experience managing airway complications and providing effective management of post nausea/vomiting.

CSS709 Recovery Practitioner Day Surgery Unit - NHH

We are looking for a highly motivated Registered Nurse / Practitioner to join our versatile Day Surgery Unit team. The unit is a 5-day service with plans of development within the surgical services.

The successful applicant will need to be committed to the educational needs of the department and be expected to promote the high standards of patient care provided by Aneurin Bevan University Hospital.

The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) is a busy unit currently running 5 Theatres, specialising in a range of surgical disciplines including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Plastics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Pain.

Staff are expected to support other sites within the health board, when necessary, thus the successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility within the service

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work as a competent member of the Day Surgery team within the unit. Nurses / Practitioners are required to maintain a high standard of patient care under the direction of the senior members of the clinical staff. They are expected to take delegated responsibility in a given shift for adult patients. There is an expectation to work in accordance with the standards set by the Nursing / Midwifery / HCP Professional Bodies, and in accordance with Trust Policies and Guidelines.

Previous perioperative experience is desirable, but training can be given.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) NMC Registered OR Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) HCPC registered
  • Knowledge of the Recovery area
  • Evidence of professional development that at least meets the minimum requirement of the post holder's professional body
  • Degree level education or a willingness to work towards
  • Intermediate Life Support trained
  • IV Therapy and Pump Training approved courses
Experience
  • Working within a hospital setting
  • Previous experience working in a critical care environment, theatre department or postoperative surgical setting
  • Recovery experience with knowledge of managing airway complications, administering medications including controlled Drugs and providing effective management of post nausea/vomiting
