Join the Canal & River Trust as a Conservator Volunteer, helping to preserve and enhance our waterways in various locations. This role provides an exciting opportunity to engage with the community, make a positive impact outdoors, and learn new skills while working with a friendly team.
As a regular team member of the ‘Happy Mondays Roaming Team!’, volunteers will meet on Mondays at Lighterage Yard in Northwich and be transported to a different location each week to perform various tasks on the T&M Canal or Weaver Navigation. All volunteers will be returned to Lighterage Yard at the end of each day. There is no commitment to attend every Monday, and the four spaces available for transportation are on a first-come, first-served basis. Alternatively, you can make your own way and meet us on location.
Join us today to become a Conservator Volunteer and be part of the team keeping history alive by preserving our waterways. In this role, you’ll experience various locations of our beautiful network and help maintain our structures and assets. Whether working on pre-planned maintenance like vegetation clearance around aqueducts or tackling graffiti in urban areas, our Conservators ensure the waterways remain beautiful and accessible. This is a great opportunity to make a positive impact in your community while learning more about local canals and rivers.
Our Conservator volunteers help maintain our network by carrying out heritage and nature conservation activities, as well as everyday tasks such as painting or litter picking to improve the local environment.
They help address challenges on the waterways, ensuring accessibility and good maintenance. Some projects involve specific activities like rebuilding stone walls or planting, allowing volunteers to contribute in different ways.
