Job description

The supervision of people subject to community service, where the person under supervision has been ordered to complete a specified number of hours unpaid work within the community.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside, coach, supervise and motivate a group of individuals subject to Community Service designated by the probation service officer.
  • Undertake comprehensive on-site inductions of individuals subject to Community Service as required, including Health and Safety induction.
  • Drive and operate, with appropriate training/licensing, PBNI’s Graffiti Removal Service vehicle(s).
  • Development of good working practices and training leading to an appropriate level of competence and standard of work by individuals subject to Community Service.
  • Ensuring adherence to work site guidelines and implement working regulations for people subject to Community Service as instructed by probation service officer.
  • Maintenance of safe and productive working conditions on site in compliance with Health and Safety requirements; organisational policies and procedures, and attendant risk assessments.
  • Ensure individuals subject to Community Service are informed, instructed and where necessary, trained to use tools and equipment to achieve quality outcome for beneficiary with due regard to Health and Safety requirements.
  • Maintenance of effective management and control over community service workers whilst promoting a positive attitude towards them at all times.
  • Responsible for holding and/or issuing cash/tools/equipment/materials to individuals subject to Community Service within guidelines and using and maintaining tools, supplies and health and safety equipment for job.
  • Responsible for transporting individuals subject to Community Service and/or tools/equipment to work sites in own vehicle and, if required, Board trailer as instructed. A tow bar may be fitted to the vehicle at PBNI expense if necessary.
  • Advise probation service officer of problems or concerns relating to the task at hand, the host or any of the individuals subject to Community Service.
  • Responsible for maintenance of accurate records, including electronic records on PBNI’s electronic case management system e.g., timesheets, health and safety reports, expense claims, and similar administrative records.
  • Partake in supervision with Area Managers and other organised meetings/fora as required.
  • Record and report all accidents, damage, theft, or loss.
  • Positive liaison with site hosts and maintenance of harmonious relationships.
  • Represent the Probation Board to the public in a positive light, ensuring customer satisfaction. Work with PBNI Communications department to promote the work of Community Service to the public.
  • Work in accordance with PBNI policy and procedures in all elements of work.
  • Maintaining and updating professional knowledge by identification of own training and development needs, updating practice, and attending relevant training courses, as agreed with line manager.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade and as required by the nature of the role.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A valid driving licence, which covers towing a trailer. ORA valid driving licence and agree to attain the necessary category within a reasonable time frame.
  • Experience of working with people in challenging team environments to motivate them and ensure positive working relationships.
  • The competence to carry out tasks to a high standard in at least one of the following: Gardening. Painting and decorating. Grounds maintenance. Building and carpentry.
  • Awareness of good practice in relation to Health and Safety (Training will be given)
  • Use of a car which can carry a minimum of four passengers and equipment safely AND have a tow bar fitted OR be willing to have one fitted.
  • Must be able to work Tuesday to Saturday.
  • Must be physically fit to undertake manual work and to work outdoors.
