About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled

VMWare chief engineer

to join our Infrastructure Services team. This role involves designing, deploying, managing, and optimizing cloud and virtualization environments across public, private, and hybrid cloud platforms. You will work with a broad range of technologies, including servers, storage, networks, containers, middleware, databases, and virtualization solutions.

This role is critical in ensuring high availability, performance, and security of DXCs infrastructure while supporting cloud migration, automation, and modernization initiatives. This role blends deep technical expertise with operational leadership, supporting enterprise‑grade virtualization, cloud, and server platforms. You’ll manage complex project deployments, drive automation, and ensure platform resilience across secure hybrid environments.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national and hold or be eligible for high‑level UK government security clearance. Please note we are currently only considering candidates within commutable distance to Erskine or Newcastle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, configure, and optimize virtualization technologies such as VMware, VCF 5.x & higher.
  • Deploy and configure VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and Aria Suite tools (vRealize Operations, Automation, Log Insight, NSX).
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design scalable, secure, and cost‑effective cloud solutions.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure issues across storage, networking, and compute environments.
  • Implement automation and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) practices using tools like Ansible or PowerShell.
  • Document system design (HLD / LLD), configurations, policies, and procedures for future reference and audits.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other IT teams as needed.
  • Apply deep technical knowledge and critical thinking to address complex infrastructure‑related problems.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 6+ years of industry experience in a cloud or virtualization role.
  • Strong experience with VMware VCF.
  • Basic familiarity with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of networking, storage solutions, and Active Directory in cloud environments.
  • Experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, or Python).
  • Understanding of IT security best practices, identity management, and compliance.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
