About The Role

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:00 - 17:00, with rota in place for weekend working and on call

Somerset House is one of this country's finest and largest 18th century buildings and is of international importance to our architectural heritage.

Somerset House is a major arts and cultural centre in the heart of London. During summer months 55 fountains dance in the courtyard, and in winter you can skate on London's favourite ice rink. Somerset House also programmes contemporary art and design exhibitions, free displays, family workshops and guided tours.

The Carpenter / Fabric Technician plays a key role in the planned and reactive maintenance of a grade one listed, historic building in central London and is responsible for the delivery of maintenance services to include but not limited to carpentry, decorative and general building fabric repairs and maintenance. They will also play a key role in the provision of services to a number of stakeholders including resident offices, exhibitions and events.

Responsibilities
  • Completion of PPM to all fabric elements of the building
  • Completion of reactive tasks as required / directed
  • Completion of ad-hoc fabric works including preparation of quotes for such work
  • Completion of quoted works both inside and outside of normal working hours
  • Occasional report writing
  • Observe and comply with company Health Safety & Environmental procedures.
  • Be an ambassador for Somerset House & OCS, maintaining their core values
Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Time served carpenter
  • Experience in a heritage environment
  • City and Guilds or NVQ level 3 in carpentry
  • General building experience
  • Prepared to work outside of normal business hours
  • Client facing - able to communicate at all levels

Desirable

  • Multi skilled across with experience of other trades and practices
