Job description
Overview

A vacant post for a band 6 Respiratory Nurse or Respiratory Physiotherapist has arisen in North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) in the area of South West Essex within the Integrated Respiratory Team. The Integrated Respiratory Team is an integrated service with Nursing staff, Specialist Physiotherapists, Assistant Practitioners, Senior Physiotherapy Assistants and Administration staff. The service covers many aspects of community respiratory care, including COPD Team, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Home Oxygen Service, Respiratory Virtual Ward and Breathlessness and Diagnostics service.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Promoting effective self-management of patients and/or providing professional intervention for community management to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, improve quality of life and actively identify patients who would benefit from case management.
  2. Make a contribution to both patient and professional education.
  3. Deliver a high level of respiratory care to COPD patients and other suitably identified respiratory conditions.
  4. Perform and/or interpret ABG and CBG results for oxygen therapy assessment and review.
  5. Support/deliver the assessment and delivery of Pulmonary Rehabilitation after upskilling and/or provide sickness and holiday cover to this service.
  6. Support the delivery of the Respiratory Virtual Ward (RVW) which supports Admission Avoidance and Early Supported Discharge pathways. This service is 7 days and requires weekend cover on a rostered basis.
  7. Support the Breathlessness and Diagnostics service by performing quality FeNo and ARTP accredited Spirometry. The service is evolving and additional suitable pathways may be added.
  8. Participate in MDT, teaching, supervision of junior staff and provide peer support.
  9. Support and deliver the Trust’s Values.

Contractual and Working Arrangements

The post is Monday – Friday 9:00–17:00 and Saturday – Sunday 09:00–15:00, on a 4-week or suitable rota basis once training and competency are signed off.

Probationary period applies.

High Cost Area Supplement: This post attracts 5% of basic salary (minimum £1,303 and maximum £2,198 per annum, pro rata for part-time).

Qualifications and Requirements
  • The successful candidate will be an Adult Nurse or Physiotherapist with at least 2 years’ experience at Band 5, including Respiratory experience and those with complex respiratory presentation and multiple comorbidities.
  • Ability to work flexibly across South West Essex and travel to clinic locations and home visits.
  • Covered areas include Thurrock, Basildon, Brentwood, Wickford and Billericay.
  • Certain respiratory qualifications and courses are mandatory; support may be provided if not currently held, to be qualified at interview.
  • Certificates of Sponsorship: Although we are a registered sponsor organisation, sponsorship cannot be offered for all roles. Check UKVI eligibility; HCAS is not included in basic salary for sponsorship calculations.
