A major healthcare provider in Scotland is looking for a candidate to join their respiratory services focused on asthma management and research. The role involves outpatient clinics, on-call medical duties, and contributing to clinical trials and research at a leading asthma research unit. Candidates must have completed their MRCP examinations. The position offers a 40-hour work week and is based across multiple hospitals in Glasgow, with the potential for further research funding opportunities.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern for this post 40 hours plus 50% ON CALL.
The post will be for 2 years from August 2026

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is the largest teaching hospital in the UK.
Respiratory services are delivered across four in‑patient wards with 22 consultants contributing to in‑patient care.
You will be based at Gartnavel General Hospital for asthma outpatient clinic and research time, the New Victoria Hospital for asthma outpatient clinic and at QEUH for on‑call commitments.
Outpatient asthma clinics will include a full range of management options including advanced therapies for severe asthma such as biologic therapies and clinical trial therapies. On‑call commitment will comprise nighttime cover of medical patients at QEUH, daytime and evening on‑call contribution to medical receiving.
Research commitment will be to contribute to the busy and active programme of research at Gartnavel Asthma Research Unit. This established and highly regarded research unit contributes to many national and international registry trials into asthma care as well as delivering cutting edge novel hypothesis driven research into asthma pathogenesis and treatment. In addition, there is a significant contribution to pharmaceutical trials co‑managed by the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility.
It is expected that the successful candidate will work towards developing a research portfolio sufficient to apply for further funding towards a higher degree. Essential qualification for the post is completion of MRCP examinations. The successful applicant will take a half slot in the Medical Senior daytime and on‑call rota (50% rota banding).
