About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Warwickshire County Council’s Operational Finance team as an Accountant. In this pivotal role, you will provide high-quality financial advice and support to senior managers and cost centre managers, covering both revenue and capital responsibilities. You will play a key part in ensuring robust financial management and supporting the Council’s financial framework, including the preparation of medium-term financial plans, annual budgets, monthly monitoring, and year-end closedown.

You will also contribute to statutory financial returns, the financial implications in reports to councillors and managers, and the financial aspects of business cases, including costing and option appraisals. This is a varied and rewarding role, adding value to service decision-making and business planning processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver expert financial advice and support to managers on budget management, forecasting, modelling, analysis, and decision-making.
  • Support the development and delivery of the Council’s financial strategies and frameworks.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets, complete statutory financial returns, and contribute to business case development.
  • Promote consistency and best practice in financial management and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate, statutory, and local financial requirements.
  • Contribute to service transformation, procurement exercises, and the development of financial systems and processes.
  • Supervise and support team members as required.
About You

We are looking for a finance professional who:

  • Holds a full professional qualification (CCAB) or has substantial senior-level experience in a finance environment.
  • Has significant experience providing financial support and advice, ideally within local government finance.
  • Demonstrates advanced Excel skills (including complex formulae and pivot tables).
  • Can analyse complex information and develop effective solutions.
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with a range of audiences, including on sensitive or complicated matters.
  • Thrives under pressure, meeting tight and unpredictable deadlines.
  • Has experience managing or supervising others and leading on policy or service development.
