Job description

1:1 Tutor - Help Young People in Croydon Reconnect with Learning

Part-time Term-time only Flexible hours SEN & Mental Health Support

Some children can't attend school right now - but that doesn't mean their education should stop.
We're looking for committed, understanding 1:1 Tutors to work with pupils in Croydon who need personalised support to re-engage with learning. These students may have special educational needs, social or emotional challenges, or be recovering from difficulties with school attendance.

Your role will be to create an encouraging, tailored learning experience that helps them feel capable, valued, and ready to take the next step in their education.

What You'll Do

  • Provide individual tuition in English, Maths, Science, and other key subjects.

  • Meet learners in their homes, libraries, or community settings across Croydon.

  • Use creative, adaptable teaching approaches that meet each student's needs.

  • Build trust and motivation in students who may have been out of education for some time.

  • Work closely with parents, carers, and schools to track progress and next steps.

  • Keep accurate lesson notes and progress reports.

What We Offer

  • 27- 31 per hour, plus opportunities for bonuses.

  • Work during school hours - your evenings and weekends are your own.

  • Flexible part-time hours, usually 6-15 per week.

  • Additional students available if you want more work.

  • A meaningful role that directly impacts young lives.

What We're Looking For

  • Teaching or tutoring experience (SEN/SEMH experience highly valued).

  • A patient, empathetic approach and the ability to adapt to different learning styles.

  • Excellent communication skills for building positive relationships.

  • Ability to work independently and manage your own timetable.

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) and safeguarding knowledge.

  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred for travel in Croydon.
