Biomemory is a worldwide pioneer in DNA Data Storage.
We are a well-funded deeptech start-up developing rackable IT servers for Data Centers that use synthetic DNA as a data storage medium.
While this technology is still in its infancy, our DNA-based storage servers aim to handle massive data volumes (Exabytes) with ultra-long retention (>100 years) at an attractive CAPEX and OPEX.
Headquartered in Paris, Biomemory’s mission is to serve the fast-growing global cold storage market.
About the Job
Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, you will join Atlas Team as a Sysadmin Technician, and you will be in charge of the system and infrastructure operations.
Infrastructure & System Operations
- Maintain system and network infrastructure in operational condition.
- Update and monitor both internal and external systems.
- Manage access requests and maintain proper control over user permissions.
- Map and document the Information System, contributing to a cultural shift from “it works” to “it works and it’s documented.”
- Install and administer external compute resources (e.g. OVH bare metal) in a controlled and reliable manner (using SLURM).
- Conduct security assessment and propose or discuss remediation plans.
- Contribute ideas for new installations, deployments, and automation.
- Simplify and document procedures to improve efficiency and reliability.
Support & Internal Operations
- Manage internal tickets (via GitLab): triage, prioritization, follow-up, and metrics.
- Provide basic user support for workstations (Linux, Windows and macOS).
- Manage user access (provisioning, revocation, monitoring, incident alerts).
- Participate in onboarding and offboarding (hardware setup, account creation, SI overview).
- Manage software licenses and hardware inventory.
- Promote best practices and enhance information security culture.
- Collaborate with Sarah, our Office Manager, on technical vendor relationships (cloud and infrastructure providers).
R&D and Operations
- While this position is primarily focused on managing infrastructure and servers (≈90%), the engineer will also contribute around 10% of their time to R&D efforts.
- This includes supporting the definition of operational procedures for successive versions of our DNA-based data storage system.
- The role is anchored in production infrastructure, but thanks to his/her experience, the person will collaborate closely with the Software team—using their operational expertise to help design and validate our next-generation DNA storage device.
- In short: a full-time infrastructure engineer, structuring and maintaining the system, yet deeply aligned with R&D DNA.
