An innovative environmental firm is seeking an Environmental ICPE Permitting Lead to oversee the permitting process for a green iron plant. Candidates should have a degree in Engineering and significant experience in environmental permits in France, particularly within industrial projects.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of SEVESO, IED, ICPE, and environmental procedures.

GravitHy is an innovative French company born with a global ambition to decarbonize the steel industry. Our goal is to produce large-scale, low-carbon green Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) using renewable and low-emission hydrogen. We aim to build, own, and operate our first green iron plant in southern France (2.3B€ Capex), with the intention of replicating this model across Europe and beyond.

About the Role

GravitHy is seeking an Environmental ICPE Permitting Lead (W / M) to oversee the full permitting process for the construction and operation of our first industrial‑scale plant. This role is central to ensuring regulatory compliance and securing all required authorizations on time, while building strong relationships with authorities and stakeholders.

The Environmental Permitting Strategy Lead will be based in Paris, with regular travel to Fos‑sur‑Mer and interactions with local and national authorities. This position reports to the Project Director.

Key Responsibilities
1) Develop and Manage the Permitting Strategy
  • Design and lead a permitting roadmap that meets project requirements while minimizing delays and costs.
  • Manage external consultants and engineering firms to prepare complete permit applications, including environmental impact assessments and risk analyses.
  • Monitor regulatory risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain updated records and documentation, ensuring compliance throughout the full project lifecycle (construction to operation).
  • Stay current on evolving environmental and industrial regulations.
2) Stakeholder Coordination
  • Coordinate inputs from internal teams (engineering, HSE, construction) and external partners (architects, contractors, consultants).
  • Facilitate interactions with governmental agencies, environmental authorities, and local administrations.
  • Support local authorities in updating urban planning documents when needed.
3) Compliance & Oversight
  • Work closely with the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) team to ensure compliance during construction and operation phases.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to verify adherence to environmental standards, emissions limits, waste management practices, and other regulatory obligations.
  • Represent GravitHy in public hearings, consultations, and inquiries.
Profile: Education
  • Engineering degree with a specialization in Environment, Industrial Processes, or related field.
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in preparing, securing, or reviewing environmental permits in France.
  • At least 5 years of experience in industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of SEVESO, IED, ICPE, urban planning, and environmental procedures.
  • Experience in the steel, mineral, or chemical industry is a plus.
Key Competencies
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Skilled in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Capable of anticipating risks and designing mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills, comfortable representing the company in front of authorities and communities.
  • Fluent in French with professional English proficiency (written and spoken).
