Philippe Benaroch's team () works on the biology of human myeloid cells, which represent a very ancient form of cellular immunity. Myeloid cells indeed constitute the first line of defense against many pathogens. The team studies how, at the molecular level, viruses manage to infect macrophages and how these macrophages defend themselves and protect us. The team also investigates the role of myeloid cells in the tumor microenvironment and in the mechanisms of tumor resistance and evasion of the immune response. Finally, the team aims to exploit the functional properties of myeloid cells for therapeutic anti-tumor purposes through genetic manipulation.
