Overview

Smals is seeking a Data Scientist to perform data analyses and support fraud and abuse detection. You participate in meetings to identify needs, produce reports to improve control strategy and provide insights based on quantitative information. You document analyses, configurations and developments. You present data in an engaging and targeted way for different audiences and objectives (results, feedback, KPI, research results). You proactively propose relevant action plans for prevention, detection and control of regulatory infringements. You develop new perspectives and instruments for clients and fraud phenomena.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct statistical analyses and evaluate them in collaboration with business analysts and/or the client.
  • Document analyses, configurations and developments.
  • Present available data in a visually appealing and relevant way for different target groups and objectives.
  • Proactively propose action plans for prevention, detection and control of regulatory infringements.
  • Develop new perspectives and tools for different clients and fraud phenomena.
  • Standardize new tests (unit tests) and creatively analyze new evolutions in business, data and/or technology (algorithms, tools).
  • Handle feedback requests and provide feedback and improvement suggestions for test results.
Qualifications
  • Master\'s degree in computer science; strong interest in data (modeling, extraction, analysis).
  • Practical experience in data analysis and extraction in a professional or academic context; familiarity with big data.
  • Knowledge of data analysis/extraction tools such as R, SAS and Python; experience with both legacy and modern tools is an asset.
  • Integrity and good data governance in accordance with GDPR.
  • Strong willingness to share knowledge with colleagues and focus on results.
  • Active knowledge of French, Dutch and English.
