Overview
GAI Consultants has a career-building opportunity for an Assistant Engineering Manager within our Power Business Unit's Civil and Environmental Engineering Business Sector. The successful candidate will work in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that utilizes related experience to develop professionally. This position is eligible for GAI's flexible Hybrid workplace place/Telework Policy. GAI's Power Business Unit focuses on developing and supporting Energy, Institutional, Industrial, and Manufacturing clients.
Responsibilities
- Manage civil engineering and permitting tasks, delegate and provide direction to engineering/drafting staff, and lead and review the development of calculations, drawings, and associated project deliverables.
- Develop proposals and monitor budgets.
- Coordinate with internal and external clients as well as Engineering Division Manager, Business Sector Leader, and other engineering discipline leads (such as mechanical, electrical, process, environmental, and geotechnical engineering).
- Plan, design, and facilitate civil engineering project design tasks such as site grading and drainage design; access road design; erosion and sediment pollution control design; stormwater management design; report preparation; and permitting.
- Task management: responsible charge of technical work, staff planning, budget/schedule management, scope change management, quality assurance/peer reviews, report writing, staff mentorship, and client coordination.
- Proposal preparation including scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination; written site reports, narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.
- Collaborate with other engineering leads to schedule resource and QA/QC peer reviews.
- Independently conduct field condition assessments.
- Perform bid and construction phase services including responding to bidder questions, contractor RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and verifying change order documentation.
- Travel to other offices/meet with clients/attend project-specific meetings.
Staff Management
- Planning, mentoring, and coaching junior-level engineering, drafting, and field staff, including hiring and recruiting.
- Lead and train staff to perform field visits to client sites to obtain photos, measurements, view site conditions, inspect E&S and Stormwater Management BMPs, and perform infiltration testing.
Licenses, Certifications, and Requirements
- Driver's license required.
- Ohio Professional Engineering License required. P.E. license in other states is a plus.
- Travel to other offices/meetings as required.
Physical and General Requirements
- Physical requirements include hiking moderate distances through unimproved terrain, in various temperatures and weather conditions; lifting up to 50 lbs; climbing ladders; and working at heights over 25 ft. Personal Protective Equipment is required during hazardous conditions.
- General characteristics: applies knowledge of engineering principles; leads projects; analyzes complex problems; keeps informed of new methods; ethical considerations; and leads or contributes to projects of moderate to major scope.
Experience and Education
- Minimum 10+ years of experience with GIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, HY-8, Pondpack, Hydraflow, Primavera P6, MS Project, and related software; proficiency in Civil Site Design, NPDES permitting requirements, and construction practices; and relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering required; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; multi-state reciprocity preferred.
