Your Role
- Contribute to RSB’s Advisory Services Projects assigned to you, including operational, administrative, engagement and content development activities.
- Support the implementation of project work packages and tasks in topics such as sustainability of alternative feedstocks and sustainable processing of alternative materials.
- Conduct literature reviews and benchmarks about existing sustainability standards, policies and guidance, focused on defining the sustainability of alternative materials, with a focus on alternative plastics.
- Research about feedstock selection and responsible sourcing of alternative materials.
- Material design and tradeoffs with other environmental and social impacts.
- Local context across different countries.
- Detect best practices for stakeholder and community engagement.
- Considerations of circularity and fit with existing local waste management.
- Identifying relevant stakeholders and keep stakeholder engagement records up to date.
- Conducting interviews with experts to validate assumptions.
- Using RSB’s tools to assess environmental and social risks.
- Develop practical guides with the findings of the research.
- Organising online project meetings, workshops and other related events with relevant stakeholders, to connect with expertise and facilitate knowledge sharing.
- Writing project reports and slide decks to be presented at workshops and events.
- Develop training and e-learning content to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge gap analysis.
- Support analysis of policy and regulatory drivers that influence the uptake of alternative materials and sustainable packaging.
- Contribute to ongoing and future advisory services projects related to biomaterials, which could include, but are not limited to:
- Feedstock Sustainability Assessments.
- Techno-economic Assessments.
- GHG calculations and implementation of LCA analyses.
- Standards development.
- Benchmarks and gap analyses, including alignment with policy and regulatory instruments.
- Training activities.
- Other activities as deemed relevant to Advisory Services purposes, and support to other RSB areas, as required.
Requirements
RSB seeks an individual based in Spain, Germany, or the UK, equipped with relevant experience and a strong commitment to sustainability.
Required – Education, experience, and qualifications
- Between 4 – 6 years of professional experience in sustainability roles, related to chemistry, materials, plastics, and / or bioplastics sectors.
- Experience in related industries (e.g. packaging, food and beverage, textile, etc.) and / or consultancy.
- Experience with sustainability certification, environmental and social assessments will be considered as a plus.
- Experience in the circular economy field and conducting environmental assessments (LCA / GHG) will be considered as a plus.
- Strong experience writing research papers and reports.
- Experience in data analysis.
- Proven project management skills.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Degree in a relevant field, e.g., chemical engineering, materials engineering, sustainability, environmental management, etc.
- Confidence and ability to communicate effectively with companies, governmental institutions, non-profit agencies, academia, and other experts on a global scale.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Valid work permit for the applicable countries (Spain / Germany / UK).

Important Information
- Location : Home office-based, for candidates currently located in Spain / Germany / UK, and in possession of a valid work permit (no Visa sponsorship).
- Travel : Required for meetings several times per year.
