A huge concrete leisure complex at the Northern edge of the city, Parc del Forum was created in 2004 to celebrate the first ever Universal Forum of Cultures, a kind of cultural Olympics conceived inBarcelonaby the then mayor.

Hardly the city’s most charming attraction, nonetheless it’s worth paying the park a visit to check out the ‘floating blue cheesecake’ Forum Building designed by Herzog and De Meuron, the impressive Esplanade with its now-iconic Photovoltaic Panel (pictured above), or possibly to take advantage of the park’s safe-bathing zone by the sea.

Most days you won’t find more than a handful of skateboarders or idle strollers in the district, however the Parc del Forum does come into its own during thePrimavera Sound Music Festival, when its various zones seem purpose-built for hosting the event’s different concert stages.

The area also an adventure park called Bosc Urba (‘Urban Forest’) that offers zip lines, climbing, bungee jumping, amongst 50 obstacles, with routes of differing difficulties designed for both children and adults.
