Job Description: Loans Deputy Editor
WSJ | Buy Side is seeking an experienced editor with a keen eye for quality to edit and write loans coverage for a consumer audience. This deputy editor will play a key role in our operation to help readers make sense of the loan environment, including auto, business, personal and student loans.
The candidate must have experience editing and writing articles on financial topics, particularly how loans work and influence consumer money choices, and enjoy breaking down sometimes complicated topics in a way that is interesting, accurate, relevant and distinctive. The successful candidate will have experience reporting and/or editing on all or most of these topics: auto loans, student loans, personal loans and business loans.

About the Role: This role is part of the WSJ | Buy Side editorial team. The deputy editor will ensure that articles meet high quality standards of journalism while responsibly guiding readers as they make decisions about loans. This editor will have a keen eye for detail, and will be responsible for first look copy edits as well as regularly updating and writing articles. Topics this editor will cover include a variety of loan types. However, the deputy editor should have general knowledge of other personal finance topics including budgeting, saving, debt reduction, mortgages and credit cards.
Give loan articles close copy edits, and work closely with staff loan writers to ensure accuracy and adherence to the Buy Side Style Guide.
Maintain evergreen articles through regular article updates and refreshes to ensure relevancy for a WSJ audience.
Write content related to loans and other personal finance topics as needed.
Work proactively with partners in the spirit of providing useful service to readers.
Write and edit content that upholds editorial standards to deliver independent and unbiased reporting.
Ensure accuracy and journalistic standards for all content.
5+ years of personal finance and/or loans reporting/editing experience.
Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, while delivering quality content.
Ease and speed in identifying problems in copy and clearly communicating changes needed, suggesting specific edits and wording.
Familiarity with affiliate revenue operations and search engine optimization is preferred.
Ideal candidates will have experience working on staff (remote, hybrid or in-person) in a news environment.
