A leading engineering firm in Berlin is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee multiple squads, drive innovation, and improve operational processes within the R&D Department. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing engineering teams in a SaaS environment. They will be responsible for setting measurable goals and maintaining a productive technical landscape while mentoring Engineering Managers. As Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for a domain consisting of ~10 cross-functional squads with dozens of engineers and several Engineering Managers. You will be required to oversee and mature the general operations of this domain, drive engineering innovation, jump into firefighting when necessary, set year-long goals in collaboration with Product Leadership, and make success measurable across all levels of your domain. You will be the final point of responsibility for anything new that arises in your domain, ensuring that opportunities are seized and threats handled, before delegating or setting up processes for the future.
