In the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at the Department of Computer Science, the following professorship is to be filled at the earliest possible date:

W2-University Professorship (f/m/d) in “AI and Biometrics”

Responsibilities
  • Represent the fields of responsible artificial intelligence and biometrics in research and teaching at the Department of Computer Science.
  • Educate students in the study program Computer Science and contribute to their education.
  • Engage in research with an outstanding scientific track record in AI-driven responsible biometrics (e.g., face recognition) and publish in competitive international venues (e.g., CVPR, WACV, IJCB, BTAS).
  • Develop and pursue research in areas such as privacy in biometric systems, demographic and non-demographic fairness, explainability and transparency, biometric reliability and uncertainty, and security considerations (e.g., morphing, deepfakes, backdoor attacks).
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary, large-scale projects and actively shape new projects, integrating into existing research institutions.
  • Collaborate with research facilities and institutes associated with Paderborn University, such as SICP, JAII, PhoQS, PC², HNI, and IEM, and pursue third-party funding (e.g., DFG projects).
  • Teach in German and English and participate in academic self-administration.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Academic qualification for professorship (Habilitation or equivalent) and a track record suitable for a W2 position.
  • Experience in acquiring and conducting third-party funding projects (e.g., DFG).
  • Willingness to work on applications for large-scale, interdisciplinary projects.
  • Ability to teach in German and English and participate in self-administration.
  • Alignment with the Department’s strategic research areas: Security, Data Science, Software Engineering, Quantum Computing, and Domain-Specific Computing, with connectivity to at least two areas.
