Our Chalk River location is looking for a Facility Supervisor - Zero Energy Deuterium 2 (ZED-2) Reactor to support our Licensed Nuclear Facilities branch. Can you see yourself in a role where you will be supporting the day-to-day safe operation of our ZED-2 Reactor? If so, apply today!

What will you be doing!

• Supervising and delegating work to a team of ZED-2 Technicians.
• Reviewing and approving Technician Rounds Database information.
• Building and leading a highly motivated team by coaching, training, and mentoring.
• Performing the role of and/or acting as a designate for the Facility Nuclear Criticality Control Officer (NCCO), which requires knowledge and experience with Nuclear Materials Control and Criticality Control.
• Performing the duties of Officer-in-Charge (OIC), managing the emergency response function within the Facility.
• Acting as Waste Management Officer for the Facility.
• Completing required training.
• Leading Plan-of-Day Meetings with Facility staff, performing Pre-Job and Post-Job Briefs for work in the Facility, and performing the duties of Area Owner and/or Job Supervisor for the Facility.
• Authorizing and scheduling all work within the Facility via integrated work control and cell requests to meet customer commitments; liaising with customers and suppliers.
• Developing an expertise in Facility operations; providing operations input in supporting of continued safe and efficient Facility operations.
• Ordering routine operational equipment and materials used to operate the Facility.
• Identifying day-to-day maintenance issues, initiating work requests, and liaising with planning and maintenance personnel to address maintenance issues.
• Planning and scheduling preventative and breakdown maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations in the building or on Facility systems.
• Leading the development and review of Maintenance Plans. Reviewing Facility design changes to enhance Facility availability and reduce costs. Verifying maintenance is completed according to the surveillance and test program requirements for the Facility.
• Supporting the ZED-2 in the development and implementation of training.
• Assisting with ZED-2 projects, which are typically complex maintenance activities, equipment replacement or upgrades, or process improvements.
• Supporting the ZED-2 audits.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

• Education
  • The position requires a university degree or a college diploma.
• Experience
  • At least 5-10 years’ experience in the operations or maintenance of Facilities and industrial equipment (preferably 5 years within nuclear operations), during which time the candidate should have demonstrated the ability to assume supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience with Nuclear Materials Control, Criticality Control, and Nuclear Theory.
  • Experience in being able to read and interpret technical drawings and review engineering designs for operational functionality as a Client Representative. Must be able to write effective reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing successfully completed projects.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to delegate effectively. Must have the ability to work efficiently and effectively with customers, technical staff, colleagues, and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, and direct resources to resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, maintain a clear focus on team goals, and establish good rapport with groups and individuals of many diverse professions is required.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to maintain awareness of surroundings and adopt safe lab practices.
  • An aptitude in learning new skills, multitasking, meeting deadlines, and achieving objectives and goals.
  • Working knowledge of contamination control and radiation protection practices.
  • Hoisting and rigging, flask transfers, transport of dangerous goods and hot cell operation.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

• Expected to work with hands in the Facility.
• Work in moderate radiation hazard environments where personal protective equipment is required.
• Environment demands high vigilance to alarms, lights, and signals as a safety requirement. Ability to respond calmly and responsibly to emergency situations.
