Signals Officer - Reserve Force Opportunity

Signals Officers are responsible for delivering and managing telecommunications and information systems capabilities within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), with a primary focus on supporting Army operations and command units. In the Reserve Force, newly qualified officers typically begin by leading a troop of Signals Operators or Signals Intelligence Specialists in a part‑time capacity.

Compensation & Commitment:
  • Starting daily rate: $150.48
  • Summer earnings (May-August): Over $18,000 before allowances
  • Ongoing service: One evening per week and one-two weekends per month (September‑May)
  • Additional responsibilities: Signals Officers typically take on an extra evening per week, which may be fulfilled through a combination of remote and in‑person work.
Training Pathway at 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment:
  1. Basic Military Officer Qualification (BMOQ - 7 Weeks or 12 Weekends+2 Weeks)
  2. Soldier, driver, and communications skills development
  3. Basic Military Officer Qualification - Army (3 Months - Gagetown or Aldershot)
  4. Basic Signals Officer Course (4 Months - Kingston)

This training is typically distributed over two to three summers, though alternative timelines may be available.

  • Eligible students pursuing their first undergraduate degree may receive an annual $2,000 education grant, in addition to standard pay and benefits.
Career Progression & Opportunities:
  • Apply for domestic or international deployments
  • Transfer to the Regular Force for full‑time service, or apply for full time positions in the Reserve
  • Transition into other technical or leadership roles across Canada
