Position Summary

The Business Development Senior Manager – Procurement is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end procurement strategy and execution for primal raw materials, focusing on the Beef and Pork segments. This role manages supplier relationships, ensures high standards of quality and compliance, drives cost efficiency, and partners with merchants to align sourcing and supply with business objectives. Leveraging data, technology, and continuous improvement, this position is key to optimizing procurement outcomes and supporting Walmart’s commitment to excellence in fresh meat.

What you’ll do
  • Drives the execution of business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs, developing and communicating priorities, removing barriers, allocating resources, and measuring progress. Demonstrates adaptability, develops contingency plans, and supports continuous learning and improvement.
  • Has a customer focused mindset, understanding the link between primal and finished goods specification recommendations, end customer experience, and product satisfaction (the right cut for the right occasion).
  • Develops and maintains both raw material and finished goods specifications for beef and pork, ensuring alignment with Walmart’s quality, safety, and labeling standards.
  • Manages the procurement process for primal raw materials, from supplier selection and contract negotiation to ongoing relationship management.
  • Aligns with merchants and cross‑functional teams on supplier options, costs, volume requirements, and finished product attributes (such as cut, trim, packaging, shelf life, labeling, and presentation) to support business objectives and customer expectations.
  • Oversees raw material forecasting, procurement, and inbound service levels to ensure consistent supply and operational efficiency.
  • Monitors and reports on quality KPIs, leads supplier compliance and performance management (including audits, specification management, cost analysis, tenders, and performance tracking through best‑in‑class software platforms), and drives supplier performance to meet agreed standards, costs, volumes, and service levels.
  • Fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the supplier base, ensuring suppliers adhere to agreed standards and are engaged in ongoing process and product improvements.
  • Manages the cut pattern for products supplied to stores, protects product quality, enforces food safety practices, ensures compliance with laws and Walmart policies regarding meat labeling and processing, and troubleshoots store issues related to product quality, labeling, and supply.
  • Ensures all specifications (raw materials and finished goods) are updated in response to regulatory, customer, or business changes and communicates updates to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of current plans and initiatives, consults with key stakeholders, and applies suggestions for improving efficiency and cost‑effectiveness. Participates in and supports community outreach events.

  • Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with procurement and specification management software platforms.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking abilities, with a customer‑focused mindset.
