Job summary

A community-based organization is seeking a Program Facilitator for its Empower program to engage youth in STEM fields through workshops and leadership activities. The ideal candidate will have facilitation experience and a passion for supporting marginalized communities. This position is part-time, seasonal, based in Toronto, with a pay rate of $23.15 CAD per hour.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of facilitation experience or 2 years in community programming focused on youth.
  • Experience in curriculum development and hands-on workshop facilitation.

The Opportunity

The Empower program is an immersive camp for youth in Grades 8-10 which exposes them to a variety of STEM fields & pathways. This is done through a variety of workshops, trips, and leadership opportunities to boost youth’s career skills readiness & development.

Position Overview

As a Program Facilitator for the Empower program, you will be responsible for working with team members and stakeholders to implement innovative STEM-based initiatives and content that yield increased skill-based, knowledge, social emotional learning for children and youth in this program.

We are looking for individuals who are confident working with low-income and racialized communities and have a strong command of facilitation. Individuals should be passionate about improving the lives of youth within communities. This position works alongside program coordinators and reports to the various project leads including program managers or directors depending on the initiative.

Position Details
  • Contract Type/Term: Seasonal, Hourly Part-Time Contract.
  • Contract Duration: January 12, 2026 - June 30, 2026
  • Hours of Work/Schedule: 10 hours/week
  • Please note: The individual will need to be available on select Saturdays, as workshops and program activities are held on those days.
  • Job Location(s): In-Person, central programming location near Regent Park.
  • Available Positions: 1-3
  • Salary: $23.15 CAD/hr

  • Reports To: Program Site Lead
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
Program Delivery & Facilitation
  • Plan and lead interactive STEM-based workshops for youth (Grades 8-10) using inquiry-based learning approaches.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive space that encourages active participation and fosters social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Support the design and implementation of lesson plans in collaboration with program staff.
  • Supervise and mentor participants, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Support youth in showcasing their learning and career experiences to peers and community members at the end of the program youth showcase.
Community Engagement & Outreach
  • Build strong relationships with program participants, families, school staff, and community partners.
  • Foster leadership, teamwork, and self-advocacy skills among youth, encouraging them to take ownership of their learning and educational/professional development.
  • Promote leadership, teamwork, and self-advocacy skills among youth.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to ensure diverse participation and meaningful impact.
Program Coordination & Administration
  • Track program-related expenses and support logistical needs (e.g., packing/restocking inventory).
  • Collect and analyze participant feedback through surveys and focus groups.
  • Assist in program documentation and reporting.
  • Represent Visions of Science at community events and public events, supporting program visibility and stakeholder engagement.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Training
  • Currently pursuing or holding a degree in STEM, education, social work, child/youth care, or a related field (preferred)
Experience & Expertise
  • At least one (1) year of facilitation experience with Visions of Science or two (2) years of experience in community programming focused on youth from low-income/marginalized communities.
  • Experience in curriculum development, lesson planning, and hands-on workshop facilitation.
  • Strong behavior management, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills to ensure a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working in diverse, community-based settings.

  • Attention to Safety & Well‑Being: Committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment where youth feel supported and encouraged.
Additional Asset(s)
  • Lived experience from low-income and/or racialized communities.
  • A G license and access to a vehicle.
  • Experience in the non‑profit sector and knowledge of the challenges faced by youth in underserved communities.
