Our Chalk River location is currently looking for an Occupational Health Nurse to join the team. If you're passionate about health, wellness, and making a difference in the workplace—apply today!

What will you be doing!

  • Performing health center nursing activities in the delivery of medical services, including on-site medical emergency response, radiological medical response, first aid treatments, occupational immunization, fitness-for-duty evaluations, vision screening, communicable disease prevention and management, and providing ergonomic support from a medical perspective.
  • Assisting with the disability management program by assessing the broad spectrum of client needs, including physical and psychological factors, and identifying client (employee and employer) goals, objectives, and actions to develop comprehensive case management plans aimed at achieving desired outcomes within designated time frames.
  • Progressing disability claims cases and coordinating interventions with internal and external parties.
  • Facilitating and coordinating safe and timely return-to-work opportunities for recovering ill or injured employees.
  • Coordinating the management of communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases to control outbreaks and exposures.
  • Collecting and analyzing usage statistics to monitor compliance with flu campaigns, staff vaccinations, and vaccination status by department.
  • Co-participating in the planning and implementation of public flu vaccination programs with health center staff and volunteers.
  • Delivering First Aid services to employees for the treatment of minor illnesses and injuries (e.g., bandages, analgesics, ice packs, etc.).
  • Developing, coordinating, and delivering health promotion projects, workshops, training, and activities that target employee needs, enhance productivity, foster supportive work environments, and reduce benefit utilization and costs.
  • Providing information and required medical preparation, including immunization, for employees being deployed.
  • Supporting the safety program from a medical perspective.
  • Collecting and managing medical, highly confidential, sensitive, and personal information required for managing absences, accommodations, health and safety issues, and harassment and discrimination complaints.
  • Exercising independent judgment and autonomy in determining when disclosure is necessary to protect individuals when safety is at risk, and providing anticipatory guidance on such issues.
  • Collecting statistics and information concerning short- and long-term absences, work-related injuries and illnesses, communicable diseases, accommodation requests, work climate, and health and safety issues.
  • Analyzing data and recommending to management the resources and corrective measures necessary to address concerns, mitigate liability, and safeguard the organization's reputation.
  • Developing and leading workshops related to key occupational health issues and acting as a resource person for various committees.
  • Holding a valid driver’s license and/or having access to transportation for travel to Deep River sites at own expense.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Degree in Nursing and a registered active member in good standing with the Ontario College of Registered Nurses with specialization in Occupational Health.
    • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of three years of progressive experience as a registered nurse in an occupational health and safety setting, including experience with disability management and accommodation in a complex organization.
    • Conflict resolution experience and ability to persuade or influence individuals to change.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Excellent professional, organizational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage the day-to-day operations within an ever-changing work environment.
    • Demonstrated ability in writing concise reports, preparing project plans, conducting workshops and giving presentations.
    • Ability to coach line management on attendance, accommodation and disability management-related issues.
    • Ability to provide health care to workers in a clinical setting in compliance with professional license and scope of practice.
    • Extensive working knowledge and application of the Canada Labour Code and its respective regulations, Privacy Act, Canadian Human Rights Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulated Health Professional Act, Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, etc.
    • Knowledge of Workers' Compensation Act and Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) policies is an asset.
    • Excellent understanding of Industrial Emergency Scene Management and the First Aid Program.
    • Knowledge and understanding of appropriate responses to radiological incidents/injuries are assets.
    • Demonstrated skills as a team player with interpersonal skills for dealing with employees at all levels and in a unionized environment.
    • Knowledge and experience with computer software, including Microsoft Office/Outlook/Word/Excel/Access, and applicable hearing test software.
    • Must be available for on-call support as required.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
