POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor Children, Youth & Junior Inclusion Services, the holder is responsible for planning, implementing and continuously evaluating the Junior Inclusion Services program, ensuring that inclusive activities for children and youth with disabilities (ages 3 to 18) are provided. The role also supports staff and participants of Recreation & Culture programs in the inclusion of children and youth with disabilities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises, orients, and evaluates Junior Inclusion Services facilitators, program staff and volunteers in the philosophy and implementation of inclusive programming, support strategies, disability awareness adaptations to planning, etc.
  • Participates in staff selection as required.
  • Plans and conducts staff and volunteer training; conducts home/site visits with the Junior Inclusion Services facilitator, participants, and family members; assesses participant needs, meets the participant, processes paperwork, and makes any program/support plans.
  • Arranges participant schedules and supports with participants, families, and staff.
  • Works in collaboration with divisional staff (Program Coordinator and Leaders) to orient them to the service and act as a resource to develop a team approach to delivery of the service.
  • Assists with the promotion, recruitment, and coordination of volunteer supports.
  • Promotes, raises awareness, and advertises the program to the community, service agencies, and Division staff.
  • Prepares and updates program and staff manuals; prepares resource materials for all programs.
  • Develops and implements safety procedures and ensures standards are met in all aspects of the program.
  • Attends special events that participants are attending.
  • Provides on‑site staff supervision.
  • Maintains participant documentation, updates records and completes all other paperwork duties as required while maintaining participant confidentiality.
  • Provides direct support as required such as lifting, transfers, toileting, changing, etc.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
  • Secondary school graduation
  • Two years recent experience in community recreation programming and administration
  • Two years experience working with children with disabilities in an inclusive setting
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Volunteer management experience
  • Proven leadership experience in developing training, especially as it relates to including children with disabilities into recreational programming
Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Self‑starter with proven organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment
  • Independent judgment when dealing with confidential or sensitive issues
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence, or equivalent
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • Understanding of and belief in the concept of inclusion as it relates to children with disabilities in Recreation & Culture programs and ability to clearly communicate this concept

  • Experience working in a camp setting.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Valid Standard First Aid, Level C CPR
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (un‑certified)
  • Will be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
  • Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Must have completed, or be eligible to complete HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development course
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • September – June or May‑September
  • Will be required to work irregular hours and weekends
  • Must be available for overnight sleep‑outs as scheduled by summer camps
  • Other irregular hours as required on a project‑management basis

Note – This role is seasonal in nature. Hours may vary.
