Description

Are you passionate about student learning? Can you create and maintain a welcoming and supportive environment with students of diverse multicultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds? Are you eager to work collaboratively to find innovative ways to improve student success? If these questions resonate with you, then we invite you to consider joining our English as a Second Language (ESL) department. We provide courses from pre-literacy level to pre-college and embed technology skills in a contextualized curriculum as we prepare students for the workplace, the HS+ Diploma and transition to college. Primary teaching responsibilities depend on division needs and professor's background. This position requires the use of a variety of instructional modalities and extensive use of technology.

This part-time position is an ongoing recruitment in which applications are collected year-round. Applicants must be available to teach the daytime, evening or weekend hours. Positions will be filled as program needs arise.

Position Responsibilities

GENERAL FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instruct classes utilizing techniques and knowledge of the discipline that facilitate student learning.
  • Effectively use computer applications for instruction, communication where appropriate and maintaining program compliance.
  • Maintain department curriculum standards.
  • Provide appropriate means to assess student progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Use appropriate teaching methods to respond to varying student learning styles.
  • Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in department and college committees.
  • Participate in relevant department activities supporting the teaching and learning environment.
  • Strive to enhance teaching and learning techniques.
  • Work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • Understand and commit to the mission of Clark College.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Master's Degree in TESOL/TESL, Linguistics, Adult Education or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching ESL to adults.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.

Supplemental Information

SALARY STATEMENT: Lecture hourly rate is $90.47, and lab hourly rate is $77.27.
