As an Uncertified Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for the pre- and post-analytical processing of laboratory specimens and/or entering requisitions accurately and in a timely manner while ensuring quality control checks and standards are maintained. Your contributions will make a difference and will greatly impact downstream solutions and treatments critical to saving lives.

• Accurately enter all patient and test information for MOH and private client requisitions
• Verify the completeness of all documentation and file related paperwork
• Handle STAT, verbal, critical, and special instructions as required
• Process add-on test requests and specimen selection
• Receive, sort, label, and process all specimens, ensuring proper placement for testing or shipment
• Follow all guidelines for handling infectious materials
• Match specimens with documentation, label, and separate according to sample type and test requirements
• Ensure specimens are correctly prepared and shipped to reference laboratories when needed
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and prepare specimens for analytical testing
• Follow up on missing samples, documentation, and results
• Maintain environmental conditions documentation
• Archive or dispose of samples following policies
• Liaise with LHSC and other departments for inquiries or issues
• Participate actively in a safety culture

• Excellent data entry skills (minimum 40 words per minute)
• Ability to handle calls and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and team orientation
• Knowledge of Omnitech Data Entry system / LIS (nice to have)

• Office and medical laboratory environments
• Repetitive motions, walking, sitting or standing for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
• Exposure to biohazards, temperature variations, and noise
