Role Overview

The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for the end-to-end mortgage adjudication process from origination to funding, ensuring adherence to Laurentian Bank underwriting guidelines and operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the effective processing and approval of mortgage applications from origination channel partners.
• Determine and obtain pertinent credit information, conduct due diligence, and meet credit and quality standards, including AML and anti-terrorism standards.
• Input data accurately into underwriting systems and decide on application outcomes.
• Within discretionary limits, approve, decline, or suggest alternatives for mortgage applications, and escalate qualified applications for further review.
• Issue and follow-up on mortgage commitments and conditions.
• Obtain mortgage insurer approval for insured loans.
• Order and review appraisals for conventional mortgages.
• Assemble and analyze all relevant documentation for timely processing.
• Verify data accuracy and communicate lending policies effectively.
• Meet productivity and service level targets.
• Stay updated on legislation, policies, and insurer requirements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in residential mortgage underwriting with credit authority limits specified.
• Bilingual in French and English, both verbal and written.
• Knowledge of prime and alternative lending solutions, including construction financing.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of industry regulations and distribution channels.
• Results-oriented with excellent time management and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Professional proficiency in both French and English.
