The Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury is a 48 bed facility that provides care for patients with acquired brain injury through an interdisciplinary approach. The Program is a progressive and expanding service with a commitment to professional development and excellence. Within the Program, reporting to a Unit Manager, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, with due consideration provided for family and appropriate others. You will also ensure effective operation of the unit when assuming designated responsibilities and contribute to the learning experience of students, staff and patients. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
You will be physically capable of carrying out duties of this position. This is a physically demanding position that requires the RN to assist with ADL’s including toileting, bathing, dressing, transferring, re-positioning, escorting patients to and from programs, managing behavioral patients as a result of their brain injury among other duties. Complex moderate to severe brain injury patients may be very dependent at times for care needs. Leadership, observation, strong communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in a psychiatric and rehabilitation setting are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Six or more months experience in working in neurology, with stroke and brain injured patients is desired. Demonstrated excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.
