A regional healthcare facility in Hamilton is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Mental Health and Addiction Programs. The role involves providing holistic, evidence-based care for patients with complex mental illnesses. Candidates should have current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and preferred C.N.A. certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. This position is integral to a multidisciplinary team dedicated to patient recovery and rehabilitation, particularly for older adults facing mental health challenges.
Forest 1, Seniors Mental Health Unit is an inpatient program that employs a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social worker, occupational therapist, rehabilitation therapists and recreation therapists. This program assesses and treats older adults with serious mental illness, mood disorders, and late onset psychosis with age related issues, which complicates recovery. The Program optimizes a variety of proven treatment strategies (pharmacotherapy, group therapies, psychoeducation) with the aim of controlling the symptoms, as well as supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of the older adult.
Harbour North 1, Seniors Mental Health Behavioural Unit is an inpatient program that that employs a multidisciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Recreation Therapists. This program assesses, treats and manages individuals with a diagnosis of moderate to severe dementia who also have responsive behaviours associated with this diagnosis.
The Registered Nurse will be assigned to work as needed on the Seniors Mental Health Inpatient Programs of Forest 1 and Harbour North 1 Seniors Mental Health Inpatient Programs as per ONA sister agreement.
The Registered Nurse – Mental Health and Addiction Programs (RN- MHAP) provides care for patients in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the SJHH and the Mental Health and Addiction Program (MHAP), the standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Canadian Federation of Mental Health Nursing (CFMHN) Standards. Mental Health Nursing is a specialized area of nursing practice, education and research. Nurses in the MHAP are committed to the alleviation of stigma and discrimination related to mental health and addiction. The RN-MHAP is committed to the reduction of the use of seclusion and restraint in all of our services. The principles of Person-Centred Nursing, recovery and trauma informed care is foundational to this specialized nursing practice. As a member of the inter‑professional team, the RN - MHAP is responsible for the provision of quality, holistic, specialized nursing care for patients with complex mental illnesses in Acute and Specialized settings. The RN – MHAP provides safe, evidence‑based therapeutic interventions across the care continuum. The RN-MHAP models professional leadership and provides decision‑making support by collaborating and delegating within the inter‑professional team. The RN-MHAP completes assessments, plans and organizes treatment/therapeutic interventions, documents and evaluates interventions for patients with complex mental illnesses in Acute and Specialized settings.
