Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or in the community, following the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
• Up to two (2) years recent, related experience depending on clinical setting.

Specialty unit nurse positions also require area-specific specialty certification for the unit. Heart Health nurse positions additionally require demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation, evidenced by a score of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam.

• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to organize workload and set priorities.
• Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients, residents, and families.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
