Overview

On behalf of our client, Down East Hospitality Inc. a locally owned and operated franchise group, we are looking for a Team Development Manager to cover a 12-15 month maternity leave.

The Opportunity

This is a full-time (12-15 month maternity leave cover), in-office role that blends human resources with operational support. Reporting to the General Manager and Owner, the successful candidate will lead HR practices across all locations, while also lending a hand with day-to-day business needs. From hiring and training to team engagement and health and safety, you’ll help build a strong people-first culture within one of Canada's most recognized brands.

The Ideal Candidate

You are a confident, resourceful HR professional who thrives in dynamic environments and has a solid understanding of labour standards and immigration processes in Nova Scotia. You’re comfortable leading people programs and coaching managers, and you’re not afraid to jump into operational challenges when needed. With a passion for people and a keen eye for process, you bring both heart and hustle to the table.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Restaurant Managers to assess current and future staffing requirements
  • Lead the full-cycle recruitment process, including advertising, interviewing, and onboarding
  • Coordinate training efforts and ensure orientation and development standards are upheld
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide strategic feedback
  • Support timely completion and documentation of performance reviews and compensation updates
  • Assist with scheduling conflicts and shift coverage as needed
  • Provide coaching support and help resolve employee conflicts
  • Oversee team incentive programs and develop new engagement initiatives
  • Assist with foreign worker recruitment and immigration processes
  • Prepare employment verification and reference letters
  • Plan and coordinate company-wide events
  • Manage First Aid and Food Safety training coordination
  • Handle all WCB and incident reporting, including return-to-work programs
  • Lead the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
  • Provide operational support when needed
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Business or Human Resources
  • Strong knowledge of Nova Scotia labour standards
  • Knowledge of NS/Canada immigration programs
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience in the customer service or quick service restaurant industry
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong communication skills across diverse age groups and ability levels
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • The chosen candidate must obtain a Halifax Airport security clearance, including a police check
