Role Overview

The Social Media Specialist supports the strategic direction, growth, and performance of client social media channels through thoughtful content planning, creation, and execution. This role is hands‑on and execution‑focused, directly contributing to client business goals through high‑quality, on‑brand social content.

Working closely with the Social Media Manager and Head of PR and Marketing, the Social Media Specialist brings strong storytelling skills, platform fluency, and attention to detail to ensure all content aligns with brand values, marketing objectives, and emerging trends.

This role is creative, proactive, and analytical, and is ideal for someone who thrives in fast‑paced agency environments and enjoys bringing strategy to life through execution.

Duties And Responsibilities
Strategy Support
  • Support the development and execution of client social media strategies.
  • Contribute to annual and quarterly planning by assisting with content calendar development and execution.
  • Execute content in alignment with approved strategies, priorities, and timelines.
Content Creation
  • Design, develop, and curate written, visual, and video content across platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
  • Adapt content for platform best practices, audience behaviour, and performance goals.
Strategic and Creative Initiatives
  • Support the execution of strategic social initiatives.
  • Proactively suggest creative ideas, trends, and opportunities to enhance content performance and engagement.
Copywriting
  • Write engaging, on‑brand captions that reflect each client’s unique voice.
  • Ensure captions are clear, consistent, original, and thoughtfully written.
  • Use AI tools only as a support, never as a replacement for original writing, creative judgment, or storytelling.
Industry Trends
  • Monitor emerging social media trends, platform updates, and tools.
  • Share relevant insights and recommendations with the Social Media Manager.
Community Management
  • Manage day‑to‑day community engagement for assigned client accounts.
  • Respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely, thoughtful, and on‑brand manner.
Analytics and Optimization
  • Track and evaluate the performance of social content and campaigns.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and share insights with the Social Media Manager.
Graphic Design & Paid Media Support
  • Create or adapt social‑first graphic assets using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
  • Support the execution and optimization of paid social campaigns, including asset preparation, testing, and performance tracking.
Agency Marketing
  • Contribute content and execution support to SMC’s own marketing channels, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and the blog.
Requirements
  • Post‑secondary education in marketing, brand marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a social media or marketing role, ideally within an agency environment.
  • Experience executing social content across multiple client accounts.
  • Strong copywriting skills with experience building and maintaining brand voices.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design principles and experience creating social‑first visual assets.
  • Experience supporting paid social media campaigns, including content preparation and basic optimization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Email marketing experience is considered an asset.
  • Hospitality and/or restaurant experience is considered an asset.

Salary: $55,000 - $60,000
