Salary Range: $32.91 / hour (Schedule “A”)

Hours of Work: As per CA.

Starting Date: As soon as possible

Responsibilities
  • Perform various manual labour duties, including but not limited to:
    • Working at the Bulk Item and HHW Depot and assisting, educating, and directing members of the public for proper use of the site.
    • Communicating with the public about handling materials for specific locations for waste disposal.
    • Working in extreme weather conditions with minimal shelter during heat, cold, and other weather events.
    • Dealing with aggravated, hostile, and belligerent customers on a daily basis.
    • Answering questions related to all waste management programs and proper disposal of waste.
    • Safely handling and preparing Household Hazardous Waste by identifying substances by type, category, and class, and preparing materials for shipping by designation and labeling.
    • Keeping the site clean, maintained, and free of debris that may cause injury; containing spills of hazardous material that may impact health and environment.
    • Completing minor repairs at the Enviro Depot facility.
    • Understanding regulations for safe handling and spill containment of hazardous waste.
    • Handling monetary transactions by operating debit machines for service fees and tracking all purchases for end‑of‑shift totals.
    • Using a tablet, computer, or cell phone for communication and data entry with the work management system.
    • Operating various trackless equipment with attachments such as the leaf loader, snow blower, sidewalk plow, boom flail mower, front flail mower, salter, sweeper, and winter sidewalk routes.
    • Operating the loader for cleaning and moving debris and compacting materials in 20‑, 30‑, and 40‑yard bins for safe transportation to landfill.
    • Performing winter control duties, including shovelling snow from city property walkways, operating snow plows and underbody plows, and operating salt trucks, following standard operating procedures.
    • Collecting recyclables and/or garbage while operating a one‑person waste collection vehicle on preset routes, observing the Highway Traffic Act and municipal by‑law regulations, and transporting recycle or garbage to the transfer station or landfill.
    • Operating attached hydraulic recycling lifts and garbage container lifts as needed.
    • Operating the Triaxle Roll‑Off truck for moving 20‑, 30‑, and 40‑yard bins to the transfer station and Oxford County Landfill.
    • Applying cold patch to roads needing repairs and reporting work completed to the Supervisor.
    • Performing traffic maintenance duties such as setting up traffic control measures, fixing or replacing traffic signs, and painting pavement markings.
    • Assisting on asphalt crew activities: setting up traffic control, performing crack sealing, shovelling and raking asphalt, operating asphalt rollers, pavers, tack coat sprayers, mini recyclers, and self‑propelled road saws.
    • Assisting on concrete crew activities: setting up traffic control, performing safe excavation practices, constructing and installing wooden concrete forms, shovelling gravel, placing and finishing concrete, and operating self‑propelled road saws.
    • Assisting on sewer crew activities: performing sewer repairs to sanitary and storm sewer systems, adopting safe excavation practices, and servicing manholes and catch basins, including entering manholes with safety equipment and following confined space entry procedures.
    • Performing operations as a mechanics helper, painting and cleaning equipment, washing, fueling, and general equipment maintenance.
    • Performing annual sewer inspections and annual sign inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Grade 10 education or equivalent.
  • Valid Class “DZ” Driver’s License.
  • Excellent physical condition.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Tow motor certification.
Working Conditions
  • Subject to working in all weather conditions.
  • Works in dirty conditions and is required to perform repetitive heavy lifting.
  • Subject to shift work and overtime as required.
