The EA SPORTS Catalyst Research and Innovation Team is dedicated to pioneering research that propels the gaming industry forward. We aim to invent new kinds of gaming experiences by leveraging recent advances in technology and exploring new paradigms in game development. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, reporting to the Head of Research and Innovation, you will build the framework and tools necessary to drive our research strategy and innovation roadmap. You will work closely alongside our researchers to develop cutting edge models, streamline their research and bring our innovations to life. Your mission is to redefine what is possible in gameplay by taking our team’s research from concept to reality; empowering experimentation, scaling up new discoveries, and contributing to a strategy that brings the future of gaming to life at EA SPORTS.

Your Responsibilities
  • Drive the technical strategy behind our research roadmap, exploring frontier technologies that will define the future of Sports Gaming.
  • Partner closely with research teams to design and execute experiments, including hands‑on implementation of machine learning models and advanced training pipelines.
  • Support large‑scale training, inference optimization, and fine‑tuning efforts to push model performance and efficiency.
  • Build and maintain tooling, platforms, and data systems that accelerate research velocity, including data acquisition and curation workflows.
  • Translate research breakthroughs into prototypes and highly engaging interactive demos that clearly communicate value and inspire adoption.
  • Keep a pulse on cutting‑edge technologies – including diffusion models, generative techniques, and emerging AI frameworks – and propose ambitious, high‑impact projects.
  • Work directly with game teams to understand their opportunities and challenges, and craft scalable strategies for integrating new research into production environments.
  • Collaborate across engineering, research, and game development groups to ensure alignment and accelerate innovation across the portfolio.
Your Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field (or equivalent advanced experience).
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing, training, and optimizing machine learning models in real‑world environments.
  • Strong technical foundation with proven success working across research and engineering disciplines.
  • Hands‑on experience implementing ML models, including practical knowledge of training, inference optimization, and fine‑tuning workflows.
  • Familiarity with diffusion models or other cutting‑edge generative modeling approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to turn novel ideas into robust, effective implementations that materially move projects forward.
  • Experience with AI/ML tools, platforms, and frameworks, plus an understanding of their application in gaming or interactive systems.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top‑up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full‑time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
