Position Summary

Are you a PhD-trained researcher with expertise in isotopic, spectrometric, and chemical analyses of environmental systems? Join us as our new Research Scientist: Environmental Chemist / Analyst!

The University of Regina is seeking an Environmental Research Scientist to join the Institute of Environmental Change and Society (IECS) and collaborate with Canada Research Chairs, environmental researchers, and molecular scientists on issues related to grassland environments, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, and their protection. This is primarily a research position; the successful candidate will conduct independent research, facilitate others' research through collaboration and advice, and provide expert analytical services. The role also involves managing, maintaining, and upgrading instrumentation within the Environmental Analysis Facility (EAF), including Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry, Gas Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Cavity Ring Down Spectroscopy, and water chemistry units.

The EAF is housed in the $15M Institute of Environmental Change and Society, a 6,500 sq. ft. research centre at the University of Regina equipped with world-class infrastructure, including advanced analytical equipment like LC-MS-MS, confocal laser scanning microscopy, atomic force microscopy, 2DGE, and MiSeq, along with a dedicated numerical analysis laboratory.

What You’ll Do :

  • Develop an independently funded research program utilizing the instrumentation available within IECS.
  • Collaborate actively with scientists and student researchers within IECS.
  • Work with local, regional, and national scientists to promote IECS, manage the Environmental Analysis Facility, and apply chemical analyses to environmental issues.
  • Manage and upgrade instrumentation within the EAF.
  • Perform additional related tasks as needed in this dynamic role.
