Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Care, the Registered Nurse Manager – Education & Quality Improvement is responsible for advancing staff education, clinical excellence, and quality improvement initiatives across Hawthorne Seniors Care Community. This role provides leadership in developing and implementing educational programs, supporting regulatory compliance, and promoting evidence-informed best practices in resident care.

The RN Manager works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to foster a culture of continuous learning, safety, and person‑centred care. In addition to leading education and quality initiatives, the incumbent serves as the designate for the Director of Care during absences, providing operational oversight, clinical leadership, and support to staff, residents, and families.

Key Responsibilities:

Education & Professional Development

  • Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive education programs that enhance clinical knowledge and care competencies across the organization.
  • Plan and deliver engaging in‑service training, workshops, and skills assessments in areas such as person‑centred care, dementia care, and infection prevention.
  • Oversee staff orientation and onboarding to ensure new team members are welcomed, supported, and aligned with Hawthorne’s values and care philosophy.
  • Mentor, coach, and empower staff to pursue professional growth, reflective practice, and lifelong learning.
  • Stay current with best practices and emerging evidence to inform education materials and care delivery standards.

Quality Improvement & Clinical Excellence

  • Lead the design and execution of quality and safety initiatives that align with strategic priorities and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor and analyze clinical outcomes, audits, and performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary leaders to develop and implement quality improvement plans, policies, and best practices.
  • Champion resident safety, regulatory compliance, and evidence‑based care across all programs and services.
  • Participate in accreditation reviews, regulatory inspections, and compliance reporting.
  • Serve as a clinical resource, educator, and role model for staff at all levels.
  • Work closely with the Director of Care and interdisciplinary teams to promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and excellence.
  • Support communication and knowledge sharing across departments to ensure consistency and collaboration.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, and external stakeholders to support trust and transparency.
  • Act as the designate for the Director of Care during absences, providing operational oversight, clinical decision‑making, and leadership continuity.
Qualifications:

Education & Registration

  • Current registration in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; additional education or certification in leadership, education, or quality improvement is an asset.
  • Ongoing professional development in areas such as gerontology, clinical education, or healthcare management is preferred.

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive nursing experience, including at least two (2) years in a leadership, education, or quality improvement capacity.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and other clinical documentation systems is an asset.
