Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Our client is a global leader in Pediatric Health, with over 400 staff and physicians dedicated to helping children and youth live their best lives. They are currently seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide mental health nursing as part of the multidisciplinary Consultation Liaison team.

Services include consultation, assessments, and treatment of both medical inpatient and outpatient cases presenting with mental health issues. The role involves hospital-wide duties related to suicide risk screening and support. Weekend and evening work will be required.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  1. Provide mental health nursing to medical patients referred to the Consultation Liaison (CL) team, including consultation and treatment services for medical inpatients and outpatients with mental health issues.
  2. Support hospital-wide suicide risk screening projects.
  3. Provide nursing information and coaching to nursing staff regarding suicide prevention.
  4. Offer appropriate information and support to patients and families regarding suicide prevention.
  5. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  6. Participate in the development and implementation of programming.
  7. Mentor students and new staff members.
  8. Perform other mental health duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (PRC) – Essential
  2. Current College of Nurses registration – Essential
  3. Current CPR certification – Essential
  4. B.Sc. Nursing – Essential
  5. Minimum 2 years of experience in mental health nursing – Essential
  6. Certificate in Mental Health Nursing – Preferred
  7. Experience in crisis intervention, short-term interventions, and evidence-based treatment – Essential
  8. Knowledge translation experience, specifically related to suicide prevention – Preferred
  9. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with other health professionals – Essential
  10. Knowledge of mental health legislation, treatment modalities, short-term interventions, and experience with suicide risk assessment and intervention – Essential
  11. Knowledge of crisis and suicide support services and agencies in Ottawa and eastern Ontario – Preferred
  12. Bilingual in French and English – Preferred
