Job description

Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts is hiring Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators II for Whittier, CA or Valencia, CA.

The Sanitation Districts operate 11 wastewater treatment facilities, treating approximately 510 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater and providing 165 MGD for reuse. These facilities are strategically located throughout the County to maximize water reuse and efficiently return cleaned water to waterways, reservoirs, or the Pacific Ocean.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Lead a crew, coordinate, and participate in water reclamation operations at a wastewater treatment plant.

JOB SUMMARY :

Under supervision, lead operators and perform complex operational duties, including:

  • Tour assigned areas to ensure proper station functioning.
  • Review and specify work procedures.
  • Train staff to maintain safety, efficiency, and technical standards.
  • Implement operating orders.
  • Check logs and charts; evaluate instrument readings.
  • Analyze laboratory data to ensure compliance with parameters.
  • Report irregularities and recommend repairs.
  • Oversee routine maintenance and order parts.
  • Train crew members and keep employee time records.
  • Conduct plant tours and perform basic maintenance duties.
  • Drive to other sites and perform related duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Valid California Class C driver license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with certification per California State requirements.
  • Grade III or higher Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate from the California State Water Resources Control Board.
  • At least 2.5 years of experience performing wastewater treatment plant operator duties.
