Qualifications

• Health Care Certification: Personal Support Worker (PSW) Diploma or equivalent
• The Personal Support Worker must have a solid knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of community nursing and the delivery of personal care service to clients
• Tuberculosis Skin Test (Step 1 & 2) - valid within 2 years
• Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector - valid within the year
• Access to a reliable vehicle with a valid driver’s license

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide personal care service according to direction of the established care plan and ensure to continuously monitor the emotional, spiritual, functional, and physical comfort and safety of our clients
• Provide personal care that is within the provincial scope of practice for a Personal Support Worker: Duties may include skin care, hair care, mouth care, bathing, bowel and bladder care, positioning and movement, exercise, basic wound care, feeding including special diets, assistance with oxygen administration and medication reminder
• Understands and implements infection prevention practices
• Adhere to Canadian Shield Health Care Services Policies and Procedures
• Maintain confidentiality of client and corporate information and discuss the same only with appropriate Canadian Shield Health Care Services personnel

Skills and Abilities

• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, and reach freely and able to freely lift 23 kg
• Able to travel locally from assignment to assignment
• Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written in English
• Ability to communicate both verbally and written in French is an asset
