Job Description
Position Purpose Summary

The Outreach and Evangelism Manager provides holistic spiritual leadership to a range of multi-function, community-based programs in accordance with Salvation Army mission, values and standards for Mississauga Community Church (MCC). The incumbent will develop and promote outreach strategies to build positive community partnerships by managing relevant programs such as Alpha and Love New Canadians, etc. They will recruit and equip volunteers, nurture relationships with current church members and those exploring faith.

The incumbent serves actively as a key member of the leadership team and oversees all spiritual aspects of programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives. They will focus on championing the church’s efforts to engage and connect with people beyond the walls of the church. They will share the message of Jesus and help newcomers feel welcomed and integrated into the church community. This role requires visionary leadership, relational ministry, and practical administration to help MCC reach its mission of sharing the love of Jesus with the surrounding community.

Accountabilities
Outreach and Evangelism Leadership
  • Develop and implement innovative outreach initiatives that reflect the heart of The Salvation Army, align with the goals of MCC and meet the spiritual and social needs of the community.
  • Promote and provide oversight into all current programs; launch, manage and expand evangelistic and community-oriented programs and look for new opportunities to reach out to our communities to provide regular programs and events.
  • Coordinate and host community outreach events.
  • Create a culture of outreach by motivating, equipping, and mobilizing the congregation to engage in outreach opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies for integrating and connecting new individuals and families into the life of the church.
  • Collaborate with ministry teams to strengthen their outreach initiatives through strategic guidance and shared resources.
Spiritual Leadership
  • Encourage and mentor individuals in their faith journeys, creating pathways for deeper discipleship and helping them to take a next step in their relationship with Christ.
  • Offer spiritual guidance and support for people at all stages of their faith journey; refer contacts to Corps Officer for pastoral care.
  • Build strong, authentic relationships with congregation members and new attendees.
  • Communicate the availability of spiritual care to all clients and staff.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where people feel known, valued, and connected.
  • Occasionally, sermonize and teach as part of the worship and discipleship ministries of MCC.
Volunteer Coordination & Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between the church, volunteers, and the community, embodying the church's mission and values in all interactions.
  • Recruit and develop volunteer teams (recruit, supervise, train, orientate) for outreach and evangelism ministry programs, following Salvation Army recruitment process and procedure.
  • Monitor volunteer services to ensure consistency with program criteria.
  • Ensure that outreach programming is adequately staffed with volunteers who are trained and vetted as required.
  • Ensure that all volunteers maintain any mandatory training or certification, identify any training needs and report to the Corps Officer.
  • Offer creative ideas, resources, and support to strengthen the outreach capacity of all ministry areas.
Contact Management & Communication
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive database of all new contacts, guests, and outreach participants.
  • Ensure timely and meaningful follow-up with new contacts through personalized communication, targeted email campaigns, and ongoing engagement.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with leaders, teams, congregants, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership team to integrate contact strategies with broader church communications.
Community Engagement
  • Be an active and visible representative of The Salvation Army in the Mississauga community.
  • Attend and participate in Sunday worship services at MCC.
  • Participate in public relations efforts and coordinate church involvement in community events and initiatives.
  • Seek out community partnerships and opportunities to collaborate on outreach activities with other nonprofits, and churches.
  • Support and participate in Salvation Army campaigns for church and Community Services, including the Christmas Kettle Campaign, Walk for Hope, and other fundraising initiatives.
Administrative and Financial Responsibility
  • Provide input into the outreach & evangelism budget.
  • Steward outreach and evangelism-related resources in accordance with Salvation Army policy and procedures.
  • Ensure written records and reports of activities are maintained, and statistics are prepared and reported.
  • Submit regular reports and updates to Corps Officer Team Lead and leadership teams.
  • Ensure compliance with Salvation Army policies and procedures.
Health and Safety
  • Maintain program storage areas (e.g., updating, safety, organizing, etc.) in a tidy manner.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Report workplace hazards, dangers and workplace injuries or illness.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as required.

Critical Relationship Management
Internal
  • Corps Officers, members of the congregation, volunteers, and staff.
  • Attend/participate in church leadership and staff meetings as required.
  • Consult and work effectively, and in conjunction with local and program leaders.
  • Hold regular volunteer meetings.
External
  • Attend and support Divisional & Territorial events.
  • Local community groups & organizations.
Managerial/Technical Responsibilities
  • This position reports directly to the Corps Officer, MCC
  • Is a member of the MCC Senior Leadership Team
  • Direct reports: Multicultural Integration Coordinator, Volunteer Program Leaders and teams within established guidelines for all MCC sites.
  • Participates in supervision and performance appraisal process for the Multicultural Integration coordinator and program leaders.
  • Serve actively as a member of the management team including the development and implementation of the strategic plan.
Financial and Material Management
  • May provide input into the Ministries programs budget.
  • Ensure compliance with the approved budget.
Working Conditions
  • This is a regular full-time position 35 hours per week.
  • Requires working at and maintaining a presence at all MCC sites.
  • Work is mostly done indoors (office, church, community centers).
  • Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs.
  • This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a sitting, and standing position for periods of time.
  • Travel is associated with this position (20%). i.e., on occasion pick-up supplies, attend community meetings. Note: required to use the program vehicle when available.

Normal hours of work: The working conditions are such that to meet the operational needs of the job, flexibility in scheduling is required and includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Schedule will include evenings and weekends with the expectation of attendance and participation on Sundays at Mississauga Community Church.

Education, Experience and Qualifications
Education, Qualifications and Certifications
  • Completion of a two-year formal post‑secondary program in Human Services, Theological Studies, or other relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Completion of a diploma in Biblical studies, Pastoral Ministry, Christian Leaders or equivalent is an asset.
  • Willing to participate in continuous professional development opportunities.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License; personal vehicle, insurance, and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Three years of prior related experience in a pastoral, ministry, or outreach leadership role, preferably within a church or Christian nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading outreach and evangelism programs, including community engagement, volunteer coordination, and event management.
  • Experience in evangelization and teaching to diverse audiences.
  • A second language would be an asset.

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $48,731.80 to $60,914.75 with a maximum of $73,097.71.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
