Job summary

A cherry production company in Kelowna is seeking a motivated Optical Cherry Sorting Technician/Operator to oversee the maintenance of sorting equipment and improve its efficiency. Candidates must have at least one season of experience with optical sorting, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in English or Spanish. The position requires availability from mid-June to mid-September, with work hours averaging 60-70 per week. Salary ranges from $20 to $28 based on experience.

Jealous Fruits is a fully integrated sweet cherry producer, located in Lake Country, BC. This growing operation, which maintains several unique geographical locations throughout the North Okanagan Valley, is the largest organization in Canada.

To meet the demands of this growing company, we are seeking motivated individuals that are eager to learn and be challenged to join our dedicated team and are pleased to be accepting applications for the position of an Optical Cherry Sorting Technician/Operator.

Job Description
  • Supervise maintenance and calibration of equipment
  • Review information collected by the QC team at various areas of the packing facility to fine tune calibration settings
  • Focus on continuously improving the efficiency of the optical sorter
  • Direct and coordinate the QC team to gather the appropriate information
  • Make the appropriate adjustments to ensure efficient volume per lane, work closely with the packing managers
  • Distributing key information reports to management regarding sizing, color and defects
  • Accurately maintain full traceability with lot and variety changes
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one season running optical cherry sorting equipment required
  • Unitec equipment experience preferred. Experience with similar equipment will be considered
  • Sizing, color sorting and defect sorting skills and experience is required
  • Prefer experience on line capable of running 7-8 tonnes of cherries per hour
  • Excellent communication and team work skills required
  • Proficient in English or Spanish (preferred applicant can speak both)
  • Well organized, positive and self motivated
  • Good computer competency required, experience with Unitec software and Microsoft surface preferred
Additional Information

Our work environment is extremely demanding over a short period of time. Working hours are not calendar based, but dependent on crop maturity and weather. Work hours are generally 60-70 hours per week. Applicants must be available from mid Juneuntil mid September. Salary range is $20-$28, depending on experience.
