JOB SUMMARY

The Operations Manager is accountable for leading a team of employees on safe day-to-day operations executing KPI delivery and resource optimization. Responsible for plant asset management including both asset maintenance and efficiency. Manages the integration of contractor tasks and tracks and reviews contractor deliverables. Provides technical and analytical guidance to the team. Accountable for departmental talent development and supporting the achievement of business plan objectives.

SCOPE

  • Reports to the Plant Manager
  • Accountable for the day-to-day operating processes, equipment maintenance, safety, data analysis and housekeeping
  • Leads and supervises operations personnel in the completion of daily work tasks.

LEADERSHIP

  • Along with Plant Manager, leads a team of operations staff. Responsible for communicating plant and organizational initiatives to employees
  • Works with Plant Manager to ensure timely attraction and recruitment of top operations talent
  • Provides training to staff to ensure operations are safe and aligned with Synagro’s operator competency program
  • Develop employees in accordance with Synagro’s progression program and conduct performance reviews

BUSINESS PLANNING AND STRATEGY

  • Understands and leads plans to ensure plant resources, expenses and talent are supported to achieve cost-effective and safe operations
  • Understands and sets cost control measures – identifies opportunities for optimization
  • Ability to create and approve purchase orders within guidelines of Synagro’s financial policies
  • Reviews weekly forecasts and ensures operating performance and inventory reflects forecast

SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

  • Ensures plant operations are conducted in accordance with corporate policies and procedures/permit conditions and maintains the sites Environmental Management System and EH&S program.
  • Ensures division meets safety and performance standards as established by the company.
  • Ensures incidents are investigated and reported within requirements
  • Regularly provides safety meetings.
  • Provide training and accountability to permit process through audits
  • Conducts inspections as required by Plant Manager.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • 3+ years’ experience in a leadership or management role
  • Experience working in a technical role, preferably in residuals management, waste water treatment, or relevant industry
  • Experience working with any of the following; thermal dryers, anaerobic digestors, centrifuges, or water treatment laboratory equipment considered an asset
  • Post-secondary education in an Electrical program an asset
  • Proven organization and time management skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate thoughts and ideas both written and verbally with strong data capture and field reporting experience
  • Ability to develop rapport with employees, vendors, and community
  • Ability to problem solve and to lead others under pressure
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and reporting systems (Fiix experience considered an asset)
  • Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating and uneven surfaces utilizing ladders when necessary
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg loads from ground periodically
  • Ability to access confined spaces for general cleaning and inspections
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends if/when required and respond to emergency call outs
  • Legally able to travel to the USA or other countries as required
